Ready, Set, Learn 2009/10

Ready, Set, Learn will help parents give their children a good head start to Kindergarten. At each open house, families will receive an information kit with helpful tips for supporting preschoolers’ learning and development. Families will receive a book to read to their preschoolers as well as tools to enhance their preschoolers learning.





Information for Parents About the Importance of Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) 2010

BC Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) are given to students in Grades 4 and 7 every year to assess basic knowledge and skills in reading, writing, and numeracy.



Full Day Kindergarten Coming to Eleven Elementary Schools in Chilliwack

The Chilliwack Board of Education is pleased to announce that Full Day Kindergarten will be offered in eleven of its elementary schools for September, 2010.

By September 2011, full-day kindergarten will be available across the province. It is still up to parents to decide whether to enrol their children in kindergarten, but by the 2011/12 school year it will be available to all who want it.

Make a Future

Paperless Application System for ALL Employee Groups

Make a Future (www.makeafuture.ca) is a paperless, electronic application system. It’s green, easy to use and free to all school district employees.

During the 2008-09 school year the Human Resources Department successfully implemented the Make a Future internal application system with the CTA employee group. Teaching vacancies are now posted through the Make a Future website and teachers apply electronically on vacancies with the touch of a button.

Human Resources is pleased to announce that effective APRIL 1ST 2010, job postings for all employee groups in the Chilliwack School District will be posted through the Make a Future website.

This change applies to permanent, temporary and casual employees including

Any employee who wishes to apply on vacancies for the 2010-11 school year will be required to use the Make a Future internal application system by registering as an internal applicant and applying electronically through the Make a Future website.

More information regarding this important change will be published in the Superintendent’s Memo in the upcoming months; check your staff room for posters and brochures that outline the change in more detail. Talk to your principal, supervisor or union rep for more information.

The district will also provide training opportunities for employees who need assistance with registering and creating an electronic application package.

Yarrow Elementary School and Rosedale Elementary/Middle School Design-Build Project

In December 2008, the Board of Education of School District No. 33 (Chilliwack) and the Minister of Education entered into Project Agreements to replace Yarrow Elementary School, and to consolidate Rosedale Elementary School and Rosedale Traditional Middle School into a new Elementary/Middle School on the existing Rosedale Traditional Middle School site.
