As details are finalized regarding the upcoming Science World visit to Chilliwack, they will be published here.

January 18 to February 24th -- Community Activities

  1. On the Road School Program (audience: elementary and middle schools)

    Live science shows and demonstrations for K-7 students. Scheduling is now complete with a total of 28 elementary schools (including independent schools), 6 Middle Schools, and 2 alternative programs booked.
  2. Opening The Door Program (audience: gr. 11/12 students)

    Career networking events for high school students will take place on Feb 18th at GW Graham Secondary (with special thanks to Kathy Wiseman of GWG), including interested gr. 11/12 students from Sardis Secondary, Chilliwack Secondary Schools and the Education Centre. Students will have opportunities to meet with practicing scientists. A 2nd High School Career Networking event will be presented by the University of the Fraser Valley & Science World (UFV Abbotsford campus) on the evening of Feb 24 - details TBD.
  3. Engaging Science Program (audience: all science educators)

    Professional enrichment workshop in conjunction with pro-d day at Sardis Secondary on Feb 5 . See details and register in PD Place.
  4. Scientists and Innovators in the Schools (SIS) Program (audience: community scientists)

    A workshop for community scientists who are passionate about sharing their work in classrooms. February 25, 1 to 4:30 pm at the University of the Fraser Valley, ABBOTSFORD Campus.
  5. Early Childhood Educator/Caregiver professional enrichment workshop & ECE area of Community Celebration - TBD. (audience: ECE/caregivers)

  6. Best Practices sharing after-school programming - TBD (audience: community service providers)

  7. Cafe Scientific (audience: all Chilliwack adults)

    This event, co-hosted by the Fraser Valley Regional Library and Science World, will be held on Monday, January 25 at the Fraser Valley Regional Library in Chilliwack. The theme will explore environmental issues in the Fraser Valley, and how agricultural communities can be sustainable. Details TBD.
  8. Fraser Valley Community Science Celebration - Feb 6th Evergreen Hall Chilliwack (audience: EVERYONE!!)

    • Opening Ceremony - 11:30 start (doors open at 10:30).
    • University demonstrations & activities
    • Science World shows, hands-on activities and take home resources (facilitated in part by local volunteers) - SW shows at 12:00, 1:00 and 3:00.
    • Local Science & Technology displays and hands-on activities
    • Profile/demonstration of local youth science activities & projects (high school students doing science busking, Science Fair projects, etc.)
    • Early Childhood area - TBD
    • Science "Fun Pack" prize draws throughout the day
